When someone is wanting to learn more about or join the Catholic Church, we seek to simply accompany them and offer them any support they may need. Each person has been on a journey, the Lord has been working in their life (even if they weren't raised in a religious home), and we simply want to support them in what has already been happening. We do this in a couple of ways:
We provide information about the Catholic Church so that someone can learn what the Church believes, teaches, etc.
We also ask that the person "tries out" some Catholic practices, for instance praying in a certain way or attending Mass. This isn't meant to be overwhelming but simply provides a taste of the spiritual practices the Catholic tradition offers.
We also provide a Sponsor, someone who is living out the Catholic faith and can "walk" with you. A big part of theOCIAis talking with them about what you're learning and experiencing (i.e., "I tried praying this way and it was boring/I got nothing out of it" or "the Mass is so confusing," etc.)
Thus, we simply want to walk with you as you discern the Catholic Church, providing you with an idea of her teachings and practices.
It's a flexible process and there is no commitment. You can start this process and, at any time, say this just isn't the right time or I'm not ready.
If you have any questions, please contact us! Starting the process does not commit you to anything.
